In the first fight he’s going all out like an end game boss. You can try a again if you want but there is no benefit to beating him, you get a huge chunk of exp but it’s not worth the effort as you would have earned the exp in a more sensible way just playing normally. It was the Dojima Family where he unleashed his Mad Dog of Shimano personality after a Dojima assassin almost killed Makoto infront of him & later rampaged against the Dojima family. His personality was influenced by Nishitani, Lee & Sera during the events of Yakuza 0. Not to say Majima doesn’t like Kiryu, but when 4 comes in and Saejima returns, Kiryu’s job as Saejima’s substitute ends. Even at the end of 5, when the heroes decides who fight who, Saejima immediatly goes for Majima. You might even say that Kiryu was Majima’s way of coping with Saejima’s absence. He beated Majima in Yakuza 1/Kiwami twice. Even if Majima was longer in yakuza world back in 0 (1988) he didn’t develop much since then, since he got beaten by Kiryu twice in 2005 even though Kiryu was in jail for 10 years, so yeah. Majima likes strong opponents, someone who can give him a thrill in battle and allow him to go all out. In that regard, Kiryu is the strongest of them all hence why Majima loves trying to pick fights with him. When it comes to the Yakuza series, Kazuma Kiryu isn’t the only beloved and iconic character. Equally notable is Goro Majima, a man who is as often Kiryu’s ally as he is an enemy. The only people with his guaranteed allegiance are his sword brother, Taiga Saejima, and Kazuma Kiryu, his longtime friend. Obviously Majima loved Makoto, but did she feel the same way? Thats pretty much it, She would have been put back into Yakuza crosshairs as a potential way to strike at Majima, so he did what was best for her. Majima was a little loose in Yakuza 0 if you consider his fighting styles.
It’s clear he became inspired by him as well as learning his fighting style with the knife.
